This 3 day event, hosted at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), offers fitness & allied health professionals an opportunity to grow their knowledge in the field of medical fitness and active aging. We’re excited to welcome experts in the field, who will present on a wide range of medical fitness, nutrition, wellness and business topics.

Space for this event is limited to 100 attendees. Our boutique style conference allows attendees to meet and connect with presenters, industry leaders, and like-minded professionals.

This workshop is designed to provide a greater understanding of exercise and nutritional benefits during pregnancy.

The learning objectives for this course include:
  • Understand the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy
  • Learn about how pregnancy affects the various bodily systems
  • Review caloric needs during pregnancy as well as foods that help with pregnancy onset digestive issues, the fetus development and foods that should be avoided during pregnancy
  • Discover how exercise affects the pregnant body, what the benefits are of exercise during pregnancy, the contraindications, and what proper exercise programming includes
  • Define postural distortions common during pregnancy and how to screen and assess
  • Recognize the pelvic floor dysfunctions and how they can be prevented and treated during pregnancy
  • Accumulate all of the objectives and learn how to develop safe and effective exercise programming in all facets of fitness for the pregnant woman

As we age, the body goes through many changes. Unfortunately, most of those changes include decreases or deficits in our functional capacities. Not only does our body go through many of these changes, but the mind also begins to decline and various activities which were once “an easy thing” or “not a problem”, now are not easy to perform and they are a problem.

Luckily, the path toward aging is not filled with doom and gloom. There are many strategies and many lifestyle adaptations we can make to slow this decline, and in some cases, even reverse the deficits. Exercise and diet are featured amongst these strategies and they are the focus of this program. However, like the old saying goes, “you must learn to crawl before you can walk, and learn to walk well, before you can run.” This program will take you (the medical fitness specialist) on a journey which enables you to handle clients who have trouble walking all the way to those who enjoy running and other forms of activities.
We are at an amazing crossroads in time. Modern medicine is rife with innovations, from genetic exploration to stem cell therapies. As pharmaceutical discoveries flood the marketplace and research reveals novel strategies for battling pathogens and extending human life, chronic disease continues to tap the bar of “all-time high.” As the mainstream seeks allopathic solutions, the resurgence of age-old approaches involving mind, spirit, and Eastern philosophies gains new footing and recognition. Perhaps the single area most promising in hope of bringing all invaluable elements together and controlling and ultimately reversing the chronic disease epidemic is the area separated from medicine, isolated as “fitness.”

There exists a definitive space between the boundaries of conventional medicine and the “scope” of the personal fitness trainer, and a thorough exploration of science can only reveal the value of using exercise, lifestyle, and nutritional strategies to not only prevent, but reverse chronic disease. There is a clear need to drawing a conduit between fitness and the medical field, ultimately filling the chasm in between with a new breed of practitioner. We’re at a pivotal point in time where it appears as if the answers lie in that middle space.

In this session, we’ll explore:
  1. How understanding a template of chronic disease can empower specialized agents in the fitness field to become the pivotal force in “cure.”
  2. What six concerns must be integrated into the personal trainer scope of practice if the two fields, fitness and medicine, are going to co-operate for optimal benefit to the unwell population
  3. How and why the elevated fitness professional can and should be a key player in any individual’s allied health care
  4. Why crystallizing a new vision of the future of medicine positions the trainer and physician as truly complementary practitioners working toward the greatest good.
It’s time for the ‘space between” to be recognized and inhabited. This session will change the way you think about your career, the face of medicine and the future of our nation.
Dr. Grabowski will discuss:
  • Identifying the hormones involved in the stress response
  • How stress affects blood pressure and lipids
  • Determining whether stress causes or is the result of nutrient deficiency
  • The impact of stress on neurotransmitters
This session reviews the basic principles of longevity science and the scientific evidence showing we can win the war on cancer right now, with adherence to a diet-style rich in anti-cancer phytochemicals; which also prevents against heart disease, strokes and dementia.

How to Reverse Chronic Disease and Degeneration while Building Your Bottom Line

With the uncertainty regarding the future of the Health Care System, physicians and private practices are looking for solutions during these fearful and uncertain economical times. Women’s Health Issues. The purpose of the woman’s health lunch and learn is to explore the changes in the health and fitness industry in different phases in women’s health and identify how preventive measures can improve a woman’s longevity and quality of life. An emphasis will be placed on the importance of personalization in key domains of health, including genetic variations, exercise and physical activity, nutrition, and lifestyle strategies, including sleep and stress reduction. Older adults are unique and the complex aging process challenges even the most healthy and fit of them. This session will focus on how to design safe, effective and challenging exercise programs for active older adults to enable them to get the most out of their later years.

Dr. Thompson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of San Francisco and the owner of Thompson Fitness Solutions, LLC. He has has published scientific articles on exercise programming for older adults
Alzheimer’s disease is a very destructive and disabling disease. Once it sets in and progresses there is little to nothing that can be done to stop its progression. There is no cure for it and it harms not just the patient with the disease but all the loved ones and caretakers of that person.

There is hope however. The best defense is a good offense for this disease. By being proactive you can reduce the chances of onset, delay the onset if it is inevitable, and slow its progress, especially in the early stages. The treatments for it are simple and most anyone can receive them- exercise and diet. There are many powerful anti-Alzheimer’s/anti-dementia exercises and certain dietary factors that will aid us in fighting this terrible disease. Learn from Dr. Mark Kelly about the disease, what causes it, how it progresses, and how you can program in mentally engaging exercises which stimulate the mind and body, and use dietary factors such as phytochemicals and special fats to help counter the onset of this disease.

Pre-conference workshops are not included in these totals. If CECs are available for pre-cons, they will be provided by the instructor.

If your certifying body is not listed, please check with them for their requirements to petition for credit. Note: ACSM very often accepts courses that are approved by ACE and NASM/AFAA.

Are food and drink included?

Boxed lunch is available for purchase on Saturday and Sunday. You will be able to add them to your registration at check-out. You’re also welcome to bring your own lunch.

Evening mixer on Saturday will have light appetizers. Cash bar will be available

Lunch is not available for the Friday pre-conference workshops.

What is the dress code?

Fitness attire is perfectly acceptable!

What is the cancellation policy?

Full refunds will be issued for any cancellations made a minimum of 30 days prior to an event start date. Any changes or cancellations should be requested in writing a minimum of 30 days prior, as we need to confirm meals and seating with the event venue.

For cancellations less than 30 days from the event start date, refunds will be given, less a $75 cancellation fee. Cancellations less than 7 days prior to the event result in forfeiture of entire registration amount. Alternatively, you may choose to put the balance toward another event and the amount will be kept on file as a credit for up to 1 year.

Cancellation or change requests must be submitted to medfittour@gmail.com; refunds will be processed in a timely manner.

Failure to attend an event without prior notification (i.e., no-show) will result in the forfeiture of the entire registration fee amount.
